Choosing your cycling poster

Which cycling poster should you choose?

The bicycle comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same story:

  • Vintage bicycle poster: old advertising, cycle brands, retro lettering.
  • Cycle race poster: the peloton launched, the final sprint, a breakaway on the road.
  • Legendary climb poster: mountain hairpins, switchbacks, the ascent and the void below.
  • Racing cyclist poster: Julian Alaphilippe, champions, in photograph or illustration.
  • Graphic bicycle poster: a pared-back silhouette, frame and wheels reduced to the line.
  • Vintage cycling poster: Tour de France posters in the old manner, period lettering.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a bicycle poster?

  • Living room: a cycle race poster in a large size, alone above the sofa.
  • Office: a graphic bicycle poster, restrained, placed beside the screen.
  • Bedroom: a legendary climb, calmer than a sprint.
  • Hallway: a series of three climbs, in the same size.
  • Garage or home gym: a racing cyclist poster, for the energy of the place.

Tip: vintage posters take a small size well, their lettering stays legible at 21x30.

Racer's portrait or mountain-pass landscape?

  • The portrait captures a face, an effort, an identity: a jersey, a look, a moment of racing.
  • The pass captures a place: the climbing road, the hairpins, the breadth of the landscape around.
  • On an already crowded wall the pass holds better; it brings calm rather than detail.
  • The portrait needs a wall that leaves it air, alone or with a single other piece.
  • For a series, stay in one register: three passes together, or three racers, never the two mixed.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
