Painting seen by our artists: oils, gouaches, watercolours, still lifes and landscapes. A painting reproduction gives a wall the substance a photograph does not have. Every print is made to order in our workshop in Fayence, on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish.

Choosing your painting print

Which painting poster should you choose?

Painting covers very different registers, and the choice turns as much on the movement as on the subject:

  • Alphonse Mucha: art nouveau curves, female figures, the painter's emblematic drawings and works.
  • Painting exhibition poster: museum lettering, retrospectives, a reproduction after a canvas.
  • Still life: fruit, flowers, objects gathered in a settled composition.
  • Watercolour: transparent matter, washed-out colours, outlines that melt away.
  • Abstract painting: pure shapes and colours, with no recognisable subject.
  • Famous or contemporary painter: from Van Gogh and his starry night to a present-day signature, the reproduction of a canvas that marked the history of painting or a more recent work.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a painting poster?

  • Living room: a large reproduction, alone above the sofa.
  • Bedroom: a watercolour or a still life, more restful than an abstract painting.
  • Office: an abstract composition, stimulating beside the screen.
  • Dining room: a still life, which naturally finds its place near the table.
  • Hallway: a series of three posters by the same painter, in the same size.

Tip: the 270 g photo paper with its semi-matte finish restores the nuances of a watercolour better than a glossy surface, which throws back the light and hides the detail.

Which size for a painting poster?

  • 50x70 for a canvas that needs space, a Mucha or a landscape in a large size.
  • 30x40, the common size for a still life or a watercolour.
  • 21x30 for a series, several works by the same painter in a line.
  • 70x100 for a piece with character, alone on a large wall.
  • The 100x140 polyptych for a canvas that deserves a whole wall, across several panels.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
