Which Expressionism poster to choose?

An Expressionism painting is recognised less by its subject than by how it is treated: raw colour, bold gesture and deliberate distortion of the motif.

  • Colour Expressionism poster: vivid flat tones, sharp contrasts, hues far from reality laid down in broad areas.
  • Distorted face and portrait: accentuated features, strong expression, tense gaze, line that breaks resemblance.
  • Expressionist urban landscape: stretched streets and facades, unsettled perspectives, low sky that crushes the scene.
  • Charged landscape and sky: twisted trees, broad brushwork, thick texture and colours that do not seek realism.
  • Crowd or interior scene: stylised bodies, movement frozen in colour, silhouettes reduced to a few lines.

The filters on the left narrow the choice by dominant colour, style and room to decorate, without changing the nature of the motif.

Where to hang an Expressionism poster?

Expressionism poster with or without a frame?

A thin black frame reinforces the contrast of vivid colours and structures a deliberately distorted composition. Without a frame, the print keeps a rawer look, closer to the original pictorial gesture and its texture. A large format carries the texture of the brushwork better than a small one, which tightens the motif and softens the visible texture effect.

Poster, print or artwork: what is the difference?

The three words describe the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We call it a poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
