Posters Caen

Caen as seen by our artists: the ramparts of the ducal castle, the spires of the abbeys and the rooftops of the old town. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm semi-matte photo paper in our workshop in Fayence.

Bien choisir votre affiche Caen

Which Caen poster should you choose?

Caen comes in several registers, carried by very different styles:

  • Vintage Caen poster: old travel-poster spirit, typography and sepia tones.
  • Caen city poster: stylised map or aerial view of the historic centre.
  • Caen Castle and Abbaye aux Hommes poster: monument in close-up, clean architectural line.
  • Abbaye aux Dames and Vaugueux district poster: Norman lanes, pale stone.
  • Contemporary Caen poster: flat colours, a stripped-back graphic composition.
  • Caen Memorial poster: a sober register, dedicated to remembrance, in black and white.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by monument.

Where should you hang a Caen poster?

  • Living room: a large format above the sofa, monument or city view.
  • Entrance: a vintage Caen poster, to set the tone from the doorstep.
  • Office: a stylised map of the city, understated next to the screen.
  • Bedroom: a soft tone from the Vaugueux or the Abbaye aux Dames.
  • Hallway: a series of Caen monuments, all in the same size.

Caen poster in colour or in black and white?

Black and white suits the memorial register, the castle and the abbeys in pale stone, and it crosses trends without dating the wall. Colour, on the other hand, brings back the mood of the Vaugueux or a contemporary poster of the city, and it warms up a room with neutral walls. On a wall already rich in colour, black and white calms the whole; on a white or grey wall, colour carries more of the Norman identity of the place.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
