Posters Montmartre

Montmartre as seen by our artists: the grey roofs of the hill and its sloping lanes. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.

Choosing your Montmartre poster

Which Montmartre poster should you choose?

Montmartre comes in several quite distinct styles, each telling a different story:

  • Vintage Montmartre poster: cabaret and Moulin Rouge, old-style advertising, retro typography and palette.
  • Sacré-Cœur Basilica: white silhouette against the Paris sky, an open view from the hill.
  • Place du Tertre and its artists: street painters, terraces, a village atmosphere at the heart of the capital.
  • Cobbled streets and stairways: sloping lanes, street lamps, the corner by the Lapin Agile.
  • Montmartre map poster: an illustrated plan of the district, streets and places named, a landmark for those who know the area.
  • Montmartre in black and white: film photography, grain and contrast, a timeless Parisian atmosphere.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Montmartre poster?

  • Living room: a large vertical format of the Sacré-Cœur, alone above the sofa.
  • Bedroom: a black and white version, more restful above the bed.
  • Entrance or hallway: the Montmartre map, to set the Parisian tone right from the doorway.
  • Kitchen: a vintage cabaret poster, for a cheerful retro touch.
  • Office: a sober view of the hill, unobtrusive beside the screen.

Montmartre poster in colour or in black and white?

Colour captures the light of the district: the white stone of the Sacré-Cœur, the changing sky, the coloured façades of Place du Tertre. Black and white erases the season and brings the poster closer to street photography, in a more timeless register. On a wall already full of colour, black and white calms the whole. On a neutral wall, colour carries more of the Parisian spirit of the hill.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
