Posters portrait
Portraiture seen by our artists: human presence, bodies and silhouettes, in a sober graphic palette. Each poster is a personal reading of face and figure, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our studio in Fayence.
Choosing your portrait poster
Which portrait poster should you choose?
The face comes in several registers, and each tells a different thing:
- Black and white portrait: bare features, marked contrast, timeless.
- Portrait of a woman: elegance, a gaze, light settled on the features.
- Family portrait: generations gathered, period dress or a classic pose.
- Self-portrait: artists looking at themselves, often in black and white.
- Portrait from the cinema: figures and scenes taken from film posters.
- Face in close-up: a tight frame, the matter of skin, expression alone.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a portrait poster?
- Living room: a face in a large size, alone, above the sofa.
- Bedroom: a black and white portrait, settling, facing the bed.
- Entrance: a family portrait that welcomes as you come up the stairs.
- Office: a self-portrait or a film figure, at eye level.
- Hallway: a series of three faces by the same artist, in the same size.
Tip: a gaze turned towards the inside of the room makes the space live better than a gaze that escapes towards the wall.
Portrait in colour or in black and white?
- Black and white isolates the line and the expression, without the wall colour competing.
- Colour brings the portrait closer to photography and goes with a room that already has colour.
- On a pale wall both hold; on a dark wall, black and white stands out more.
- The 30x40 suits a single face, the 50x70 a family portrait or a wider scene.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
