Choosing your Portugal poster

Which Portugal poster should you choose?

Portugal comes in several registers, from the travel poster to the map, and they do not tell the same story:

  • Vintage Portugal poster: old tourist advertising, dated lettering, warm shades.
  • Porto poster: the Ribeira, the Dom Luis bridge, the orange roofs over the Douro.
  • Lisbon poster: the tram, the miradouros, the alleys of the Alfama.
  • Algarve poster: ochre cliffs, beaches, the light of the south.
  • Black and white Portugal poster: film photography, marked contrasts.
  • Portugal map poster: the outline of the country, the cities marked, the line of the coast.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Portugal poster?

  • Living room: a large Lisbon or Porto, alone above the sofa.
  • Entrance: what sets the tone of an interior that travels.
  • Hallway: a series of three, same city, same size.
  • Kitchen: an Algarve poster, warm colours, a holiday mood.
  • Office: a map of Portugal, restrained and settled.

Tip: a vintage poster and a black and white poster go well together on the same wall, without competing in colour.

Portugal poster in colour or in black and white?

  • Colour carries the azulejo, the ochre of the facades, the blue of the Tagus: it suits an interior looking for character.
  • Black and white reduces the city to its lines: roofs, tram, stairs. It slips more easily into an already crowded living room.
  • On a pale wall both work. On a dark wall, black and white stands out less well than a frank colour.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
