Choosing your sea poster

Which sea poster should you choose?

The seaside is told in several ways, and they do not go in the same rooms:

  • Vintage seaside poster: resort advertising, spa towns, old lettering.
  • Waves and foam: movement, close-up, deep blue.
  • Sailing boats and ships: regattas, harbours, hulls at anchor.
  • Belle-Ile-en-Mer and the Breton coast: cliffs, lighthouses, rocky coves.
  • Sunset over the sea: a graded horizon, silhouettes against the light.
  • Fish and oysters: a marine still life, briny and appetising.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang seaside wall decor?

  • Living room: a large horizontal size, above the sofa.
  • Bedroom: a calm blue above the bed, never an agitated wave.
  • Bathroom: the room where the subject falls most truly.
  • Kitchen: an oyster or a fish, near the table.
  • Entrance: what sets the tone of a holiday house.

Tip: marine blues turn grey on a cold wall. Try them against a cream or sand wall.

Sea poster in colour or in black and white?

  • Colour restores the light of a precise place: Mediterranean blue, Channel grey, Atlantic green.
  • Black and white erases the season and the weather, it works all year round.
  • On a wall that already has colour, black and white settles the room.
  • On a neutral wall, colour carries the promise of a holiday further.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
