Which Senegal poster should you choose?

Senegal comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same country:

• Baobab poster: the tree alone in the savannah or at the river's edge, an instantly recognisable silhouette.
• Pirogues poster: the painted hulls of Saint-Louis or Soumbédioune, frank colours on the sand.
• Gorée island poster: ochre houses and bougainvillea, memory and colonial architecture.
• Wax print poster: repeated geometries, an earth and indigo palette.
• Map of Senegal poster: the country's outline, the river, the regions in line.
• Dakar poster: city, port, wide sky, a sand and blue palette.

Where should you hang a Senegal poster?

• Living room: a baobab in a large size, alone above the sofa, with margin around it.
• Bedroom: an earth and beige palette, warm and calm.
• Kitchen: a wax print motif, graphic and regular, which wakes a pale wall.
• Entrance: a map of Senegal, to place the country from the door.
• Hallway: a series of three motifs from the same family, all the same size.

Tip: a baobab is an isolated silhouette. It needs emptiness around it: do not squeeze it between two frames, it loses its presence.

• The landscape tells a place: baobab, river, pirogues, a savannah horizon.
• The motif tells a textile: wax, geometry, repetition, an owned palette.
• In a living room or bedroom, the landscape settles things and takes a large size.
• In a kitchen or hallway, the motif decorates and repeats without ever tiring.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

• With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
• Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
