Choosing your water lily poster
Which water lily poster should you choose?
Water lilies come in several distinct registers, carried by very different styles:
- Monet-style water lily poster: impressionist brushstrokes, a palette of blues and greens, a nod to Giverny.
- Watercolour water lily print: soft edges, pastel tones, delicate botanical rendering.
- Graphic water lily poster: clean shapes, flat colour, simple line.
- Black and white water lily: botanical photography, sharp contrast, pared back.
- Pond and water garden: a broader register, reflections, reeds, a zen mood.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a water lily poster?
- Living room: a large size above the sofa, for a soothing water lily wall decor.
- Bedroom: a pastel tone or a black and white, above the bed.
- Bathroom: the aquatic register naturally finds its place here.
- Office: a graphic or minimalist version, understated near the screen.
- Entrance: a vertical size, to set the tone from the threshold.
Monet-style water lily poster or botanical photography?
A Monet water lily print calls up a pictorial reference everyone knows, with its blended colours and the absence of a sharp outline: it sets a mood rather than describing a flower. A botanical photograph of the water lily shows the plant with precision instead, petals and reflections in detail. For a living room that quotes art history, the first suits. For a room that wants the flower itself, the second wins out.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
