Choosing your bathroom poster

Which bathroom poster should you choose?

The subject covers rather different registers, and each gives the room a different tone:

  • Vintage bathroom poster: old advertising, soap, apothecary bottle, period lettering.
  • Humorous bathroom poster: a play on water or foam, a light tone.
  • Zen bathroom poster: pebbles, still water, minimalism, neutral tones.
  • Black and white bathroom poster: photograph or drawing without colour, sharp contrast.
  • Bathtub poster: a silhouette, foam, old taps, a tight frame.
  • Bathroom print for framing: a small printed format that fits a narrow wall, away from water splashes.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a bathroom poster?

  • Above the toilet: a vertical size, at seated eye level.
  • Facing the shower: an image that stays readable from a distance, with no fine detail.
  • Bathroom door poster: a compact size that does not get in the way of the opening.
  • Above the washbasin unit: a pair or a triptych, aligned on the mirror.
  • In a separate toilet: a more humorous or more graphic tone than elsewhere in the house.

Tip: away from the shower head and direct splashes, a wall poster keeps its colours longer.

Vintage or zen poster for the bathroom?

  • Vintage suits a bathroom with texture: patterned tiles, old taps, wooden furniture.
  • Zen suits a plainer bathroom, where the wall is the only source of colour.
  • Black and white goes with both styles and is the safe answer when in doubt.
  • On a narrow wall, prefer a single vertical size to a series: the room leaves little room to step back and take in several frames.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
