Choosing your cat poster

Which cat poster should you choose?

The cat inspires several clearly distinct registers, and they do not look alike:

  • Cat and kitten poster: portraits, tender scenes, the most sought-after subject.
  • Black cat poster: a clean silhouette, strong contrast, a graphic mood.
  • Illustration in the manner of Sempé: a fine line, a scene of life, discreet humour.
  • Black and white cat poster: the pair played on contrast, drawing or photograph.
  • Feline poster: lynx, panther, tiger, a cat gone wild.
  • The kingdom of cats: an imaginary world, a scene peopled with feline silhouettes.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a cat poster?

  • Bedroom: a soft kitten, in a vertical size above the bed.
  • Living room: a graphic black cat, alone, in a large size.
  • Office: a line illustration, set beside the screen.
  • Hallway: a series of three feline portraits, in the same size.
  • Kitchen: a light scene, a black and white cat, hung at eye level.

Black cat or white cat?

  • Black cat: on a pale wall it stands out cleanly and keeps its mystery.
  • White cat or pale kitten: prefer a darker wall, so it does not melt into it.
  • The black cat and white cat pair: two posters hung side by side, playing on the opposition.
  • Size: 30x40 for a tight portrait, 50x70 as soon as a scene needs space.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
