Posters Chicago
Chicago as seen by our artists: the skyscrapers rising along Lake Michigan, the elevated train winding between the avenues and the steel-and-glass facades of the Loop. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 220 gsm art paper with an anti-glare satin finish in our workshop in Grasse.
Choosing your Chicago poster
Which Chicago poster should you choose?
Chicago comes in several distinct styles, depending on what you are looking for:
- Chicago skyline poster: the line of skyscrapers on Lake Michigan, seen by day or by night.
- Vintage Chicago poster: retro lettering, a sepia or pastel palette, the travel spirit of the 1950s.
- Chicago map poster: a stylised plan of the Loop and the lakefront, with the neighbourhoods named.
- Willis Tower and architecture poster: iconic skyscrapers, vertical lines, black and white or colour.
- Minimalist Chicago: simple flat colours, the city's silhouette reduced to the essentials.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by size and by mood.
Where should you hang a Chicago poster?
- Living room: a skyline in a large size, alone above the sofa.
- Office: a map of Chicago or a vintage poster, understated near the screen.
- Entrance: an architectural view, to set the tone from the doorway.
- Bedroom: a night-time version in bluish tones, calmer than a daytime skyline.
- Hallway: a series of several sizes around the same subject, aligned at the same level.
Chicago poster in colour or in black and white?
Black and white serves the verticality of the skyscrapers and suits an interior already rich in colour. Colour brings out the blue of Lake Michigan and the light of sunset on the towers, and carries more of the travel spirit. On a pale wall, both work; on a wall that is already textured or coloured, black and white calms the room. Size matters too: a panoramic skyline gains presence at 70x100 or as a polyptych, while a tighter architectural view stays legible from 30x40.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
