Choosing your illustration poster

Which illustration poster should you choose?

Illustration covers very different registers, carried by recognisable names and distinct styles:

  • Illustration poster in the manner of Malika Favre: bold flat colour, graphic silhouettes, sharp contrast.
  • Soledad or Agathe Sorlet poster: a feminine line, everyday scenes, a soft palette.
  • Monsieur Z poster: seaside and Corsica, bright colours, a postcard mood.
  • René Gruau or George Barbier poster: vintage elegance, fashion, a fine and precious line.
  • Rebecca Dautremer poster: a narrative, dreamlike world, closely worked detail.
  • Children's illustration poster: animals, characters, bold colours for a child's bedroom.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by artist and by mood.

Where should you hang an illustration poster?

  • Living room: a signed illustration in a large size, alone above the sofa.
  • Child's bedroom: an animal scene or an illustrated alphabet.
  • Office: a line drawing or a Clavé poster, plain beside the screen.
  • Entrance: a city illustration poster, to set the tone from the threshold.
  • Hallway: a signed series by the same illustrator, all in the same size.

Custom illustration poster or an existing design?

An existing design is chosen on the spot and suits most interiors. A custom illustration poster asks you to specify a place, a portrait or a family scene, and takes longer to finalise. For a gift or a wall that has to tell something precise, the custom route is worth the wait. To dress a wall quickly, an existing design is enough.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
