Posters Poitiers
Poitiers as seen by our artists: the town on its promontory, the bell towers and the old maps. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.
Choosing your Poitiers poster
Which Poitiers poster should you choose?
Poitiers comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:
- Notre-Dame-la-Grande poster: the carved Romanesque facade, its arcading and archivolts.
- Poitiers map or city plan poster: the Clain, the plateau, the streets of the centre in line.
- Celestial Poitiers poster: the city set inside a circle, the spirit of an old chart and of astronomy.
- Saint-Jean baptistery poster: the oldest stone in the city, simple volumes.
- Black and white Poitiers poster: sculpture, shadow, contrasts without colour.
- Poitou and Poitiers poster: countryside, bell towers, a chalk and wheat palette.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a Poitiers poster?
- Living room: the city in its circle, in a large size, alone above the sofa.
- Office: a plan or a circular composition, precise and calm beside the screen.
- Entrance: a Romanesque facade, recognisable from the door.
- Bedroom: a beige and grey palette, settled, with no hard contrast.
- Hallway: a series of three western French cities, same size and same frame.
Tip: a circular composition needs margin around it. Squeezed between two pieces of furniture, it loses its centre and the eye no longer knows where to settle.
Poitiers poster: landmark or graphic composition?
- The landmark holds the stone: a carved facade, arcading, capitals, visible material.
- The graphic composition holds the form: circle, line, symmetry, an abstract reading.
- In an entrance, the landmark names the city straight away.
- In an office or a pared-back interior, the composition fits without looking like a postcard.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
