Choosing your tennis poster

Which tennis poster should you choose?

Tennis comes in several clearly distinct registers on a wall:

  • Roland Garros poster: clay, the tournament logo, the Paris courts.
  • Vintage Roland Garros poster: old editions, the 1980s to the 2000s, archive paper.
  • Player poster: Nadal, Federer or Djokovic, mid-stroke or as a portrait.
  • Vintage tennis poster: sports advertising, retro graphics, period lettering.
  • Wimbledon poster: English grass, dominant white, British tradition.
  • Graphic tennis poster: racket, ball or net reduced to a few shapes.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a tennis poster?

  • Office: a vintage Roland Garros poster, restrained beside the screen.
  • Living room: a player poster in a large size, alone on a clear wall.
  • Teenager's or athlete's room: a portrait of Nadal or Federer above the bed.
  • Hallway: a series of Roland Garros posters from different years, same size.
  • Gym or home gym: a graphic tennis poster, energetic and legible from a distance.

Tip: vintage posters keep their legibility even in a small size, unlike player portraits, which need space.

Roland Garros poster or player poster?

  • The Roland Garros poster tells of a tournament and an era: it suits a classical or Parisian interior.
  • The player poster tells of a career or one precise gesture: it suits a more personal interior, turned towards a love of the game.
  • On an already crowded wall, the vintage poster blends in better, with its muted shades.
  • For a room entirely given over to tennis, the two registers go well as a diptych or triptych, printed on the same 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
