Posters basque Country

The Basque Country seen by our artists: strings of Espelette peppers on white façades, chistera and espadrilles, silhouettes by the ocean. Each poster is a personal reading of the Basque Country, hand-printed on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our studio in Fayence.

Choosing your Basque Country poster

Which Basque Country poster should you choose?

The Basque Country comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same story:

  • Vintage Basque Country poster: old advertising, period lettering, faded tones.
  • Basque linen poster: the stripes, the Basque cross in flat colour.
  • Basque coast poster: cliffs, beaches, harbours, the silhouette of the corniche.
  • Belharra wave poster: the roller, the foam, the wave that made the coast's reputation.
  • Traditional Basque poster: pelota, frontons, half-timbered houses in red and green.
  • Antique Basque Country poster: postcards and tourist advertising from the last century.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Basque Country poster?

  • Living room: a Basque coast or a Belharra wave in a large size, above the sofa.
  • Kitchen: a piece of Basque linen, its stripes and its cross, between two shelves.
  • Bedroom: a calmer coastal scene, sand and faded blue tones.
  • Entrance: a vintage poster, to set the tone of a holiday house straight away.
  • Hallway: a series of three traditional Basque posters, same size, same artist.

Tip: the reds and greens of Basque linen hold better on a pale wall, which lets the flat colours breathe.

Vintage or contemporary Basque Country poster?

  • The vintage quotes an era: advertising, old lettering, muted colours.
  • The contemporary simplifies the Basque motif into frank flat colour, with no historical reference.
  • On a wall already full of objects and materials, the contemporary version holds better.
  • On a bare wall both work, and the choice then rests on the colour of the wall.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
